Not the usual podcast post today, because Father Roderick is visiting the Holy Land. On 15 November he flew to Israël together with a group of 450 Dutch pilgrims to follow up on their 2017 pilgrimage to Rome. He has been asked to film footage for an upcoming television episode of his Dutch TV show, Roderick Zoekt Licht. He is sharing his adventures on Facebook making beautiful photos with his phone.

- I’m in Nazareth! From my hotel, I can see the basilica of the Annunciation, built on the spot where the archangel Gabriel told Mary that she would become the mother of Jesus.

- Remember that time when Jesus freed a man from evil spirits and they entered a bunch of pigs that ran off a cliff? According to our guide, this is where that happened.

- People have tried to brighten up the wall in Bethlehem.
- Jan is 80 years old and has been married to Annie for 55 years. Together they participate in our Dutch pilgrimage by touring the Holy Land by bike!

- Gethsemane at the foot of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem is the place where Jesus prayed and his disciples slept the night before his crucifixion.

- The church of the Our Father, built on the cave where Jesus is said to have taught the ‘Our Father’ to his apostles. The text of the prayer is displayed in many languages, even in braille!

- Today we prayed the Way of the Cross on the Via Dolorosa. Very tough for our volunteers that had to get our pilgrims in wheelchairs up the many stairs and through the busy streets of Jerusalem.
- It was heart-warming to see how often bystanders would help our volunteers to carry the people in wheelchairs up the stairs during our Way of the Cross. Muslims, Christians, Jews, tourists, they all helped.

- The streets of Jerusalem are crowded with Muslim families and there is a big musical parade because it’s Mohammed’s birthday today.

- A visit to Yad Vashem in the afternoon —Israel’s memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. One of the most impressive museums I’ve ever visited.

- A beautiful view of the Western Wall (the ‘Wailing Wall’) at the end of another impressive day in Jerusalem…
- A nightly visit to the underground Western Wall tunnel that brings us to the street level of the temple some 20 centuries ago.
- The Children’s Memorial at Yad Vashem is a tribute to the 1.5 million Jewish children murdered during the Holocaust. Memorial candles are reflected infinitely in a dark space, creating the impression of millions of stars. The names of the children are recited in the background.

- A pigeon rests on a ledge of the Golden Gate. In Jewish tradition this is the gate through which the Messiah will enter Jerusalem at his arrival. The gate was sealed in the 16th century by Ottoman Sultan Suleiman.
